Tuck Tuck Goose

My poor baby had an operation a few weeks ago and had to wear a cone on his head :(  He was such a good boy about it though, I really am so lucky to have him!

We went to Saint Louis for Thanksgiving and he had the best time running around the backyard and stirring up trouble! He has entered his teenage years, so any advice from dog owners is welcomed! xoxo Vanessa

Oktoberfeast

Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Pancetta and Chestnuts

“Oktoberfeast” is genius! It was recently invented by myself and 2 close friends, we decided “why should we only have Thanksgiving food once a year?” And so OKTOBERFEAST  was born! Basically you pick a random Sunday in October, the girls cook “Thanksgiving” dinner and the boys watch football…

Here was our menu:

1. Turkey with Roasted Vegetables (pls note a 20lb turkey is too big for 4 people!)

2. Mashed Potatoes with Celery Root

3. Apple/Sage/Sausage Stuffing

4. Caramelized Butternut Squash

5. Mashed Sweet Potatoes with Roasted Apples

6. Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Pancetta and Chestnuts

7. Homemade Gravy

8. Apple Pie

Many of the ingredients were actually purchased at my local farmers market

Fresh Celery Root
Carrots so fresh they were still covered in dirt!

Sweet Potatoes and Fingerling Potatoes

Red and White Shallots

Red and White Shallots in my Grandma's old Pyrex bowl that I love!

Side note… biggest Brussel Sprout ever?

The Renaissance Faire

Ok, so I am going to let you all in on a little secret…(I’m a nerd). Yes, I live in NYC, yes I work in fashion, yes I love truffles and shopping and fine wine, but the honest truth is…I’m a nerd! My friend Beth always warns me not to tell anyone what my real hobbies and interests are, especially to a guy gentleman I “might” be interested it, but I say screw it! The truth is I love playing chess and Trivial Pursuit, going to Renaissance Faires, getting my palm read, staying in on a Saturday with my dog while cooking a feast and watching True Blood or Game of Thrones. I’m obsessed with mythical creatures, Greek Gods, Haunted Houses, the 40’s and King Arthur! My movie tastes? Well Let’s just say they don’t include anything with Jennifer Aniston or Sarah Jessica Parker! I prefer Star Wars, Willow, The Labyrinth, Stir of Echos, Rocky, The Natural, Excalibur, the Exorcist(you get the idea).

Well when the opportunity came up this fall to attend The Renaissance Faire in Tuxedo New York, I jumped at the chance! I even tried on Beer Wench costumes which all proved to be cheaply made and ugly, so I have decided to design my own costume for next year. I’m sure you will be hearing a lot about this over the next year! Any way, I digress… The Faire was amazing! If you ever have the chance to go you must! you must, you must, you must! But remember to bring your ID, because they card and this place was a lot more fun with a few glasses of vino! The entire Faire is built like a true Renaissance city, they have fortune tellers, shops, bars, comedy shows, duels, games, it really was a lot of fun!

And on that note, “Fare Thee Well!”

Love Quotes

The other day I was going through my hard drive and found this beautiful picture of my Grandparents! I thought this was the perfect excuse to post my favorite love quotes!

“Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairytale” -Author Unkown

“I can’t say anything more then I love you, anything else would be a waste of breath”  -Elvis Costello

“I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss from her mouth, one touch of her hand, than eternity without it”  -City of Angels

“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible” -When Harry Met Sally

“What am I supposed to do when the best part of me was always you”        – The Script

“Much as you love me – I love you more” – Beethoven

XOXO

No cook no fuss appetizers!

Well…I have been a busy bee! I have so many things going on and so little time! I had a dinner party a while back and we made the most delicious short ribs and potato gratin!(recipe to come eventually) I knew we would be kept busy with cooking the dinner and I wanted  simple no fuss apps to munch on while we cooked and chatted… and drank! So I decided on little toothpicks skewered with prosciutto, melon(cantaloupe) and basil, It was so refreshing and delicious! We also made mini insalata caprese skewers which had cherry tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, basil and we drizzled it with olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar. Both were a hit and really beautiful!
